    Hi,

My blog is under construction.what my query is that I am making a blog on different categories.what my questions is should i go for each WordPress installation for each category (hosted on another WordPress site but on the same host.) or should i stick with one.?i have been looking this in future prospective since in my current blog ,i am enhancing many visualization settings on each post.tomorrow if i want to move all category post their respective WordPress site again i have to write everything from scratch which will be a big headache.

Kindly suggest which will be better also is there any complications if i create each category wordpress site.for eg
    whatapedia.com :-main site
whatapedia.com/test :-hosted on other wordpress site but on same host.
also if i create per category per site and divert user according to category does it will effect on facebook login or other socail media login.
    Suggestions will be helpful.

    That’s very confusing…

Multisite is multiple separate SITES. So if you want to have a site per ‘category’ (remember, WP already has categories), then you have to go to this second site to make edits. Do you really want that? You can do this with Custom Post Types, or just plain old Categories.

Thanks for quick reply and aswering…..

Ok I will explain you…if you see ehow.com & when you click on any category it opens in new site .For eg.ehow.com is main site but when you click on ehow.com/technology …it opens in new site.when you see this example then u understand.

or i have installed my main site on the root of my hosted server .u can say like this whatapedia/
Now i have created another site like this whatapedia/test
This is the folder in which i will put all the tests related articles.
when you see ehow you will understand that what i want to achieve.

I understand ehow. But again, this doesn’t HAVE to be sites ?? Unless you really want them 100% separate, no shared content, different theme settings.

And if you do, well, you certainly can use this on WP with Multisite.

I’m still confused as to where you are NOW and what you’re trying to do…

Kindly suggest which will be better also is there any complications if i create each category wordpress site.for eg
    whatapedia.com :-main site
whatapedia.com/test :-hosted on other wordpress site but on same host.

The only ‘complication’ is that whatapedia.com would have /blog/ in the URLs for it’s posts.

    Thanks again,

Current scenario:i have hosted my blog on wordpress on root folder.

    https://www.whatapedia.com/

Future scenario:i have some plans,i am creating all my posts with lots of visualizations.tommrrow if all my categories are having lots of posts &
i want to give different looks for different categories like ehow.i will install child domain on wordpress on my root server by creating folder with that category name.

query:should i create in the begining and start posting on that .does it will create any performance issue or any other issue.does it will generate any issue with the socail login like if user looged in with the socail id on main site and when they diverted to category child domain they are still logged in or again they have to login.
    or
2.should i go with this solution in future when my blog grows.
i am having lots of categories.

    kindly assist.

    Child Domain?

    You mean a subdomain?

You don’t install those with Mutlsiite, it makes it for you.

    Thanks buddy,

But you didn’t get my point.
i installed all category sites on a different WordPress folder on my server.
    eg.
    test:whatapedia.com/test.
    word:whatapedia.com/word.

All category installed on my server with different WordPress installation with separate folder.on each site i have installed different theme for diffrent categories.

Is English your first language? If not, what is? That may help since I know we phrase things differently in other languages ??

i installed all category sites on a different WordPress folder on my server.

I understand that. That’s normal. You have multiple, separate, installs of WP.

I’m assuming you want to merge that into one Multisite (otherwise what’s the point of asking all this in the Multisite section).

i want to give different looks for different categories like ehow.i will install child domain on wordpress on my root server by creating folder with that category name.

    I don’t understand this.

First of all ‘Category’ is a term specific to WP, so I thikn you’re using it to mean your separate installs (i.e. whatapedia/test). In reality, that’s NOT a category in WordPress terminology.

I think you’re trying to say that you want each subsite (/test /data /whatever) to have its own look and feel. Which is fine, that’s how it works. They’re separate sites running off one install of the WP core code, and one DB.

However if you’re installing a totally separate instance of WP, with it’s own set of the files, in these folders for /test and so on, then you’re NOT using Multisite, and you’re doing it wrong ??

    Thanks Ipstenu (Mika Epstein)
Half-Elf Support Rogue ,you got me correct.

“I understand that. That’s normal. You have multiple, separate, installs of WP.

I’m assuming you want to merge that into one Multisite (otherwise what’s the point of asking all this in the Multisite section).”

    This is correct.

The test is just an example not fail .?i am referring test as a category .i will take something else.like blogging, love, sports.all categories are installed on diffrent folder with wordpress on my root server.i am interlinking all the categories to my pain page.

my only concern is that it is a safe exercise ,does it will create any impact on my blog.secondally if some login on my main blog using social sharing and he diverted to another category,is he still logged in or he has logged in again.i think now you can understand.installing diffrent category on seperate wordpress can give me variety in terms of look and feel.

Stop using ‘category’ PLEASE. It’s a very specific term in WordPress and you’ll confuse people. Use ‘Subsite’ or ‘site’ if you can.

Also I understand we’re talking in examples. I’m trying to keep things consistant for you ??

if some login on my main blog using social sharing and he diverted to another category,is he still logged in or he has logged in again.

If someone is logged in to your main blog via WordPress and goes to a sub-site on your network, they will remain logged in.

If you’re using some plugin to log people in, it depends entirely on the plugin.

    Thanks all,

    I figure out this.

    Hi whatapedia and Ipstenu ??
It’s so funny to read your conversation LOL
Now I’ll add bit of fun too ??
First to say that the English is my 8th language and it is no perfect but I promise to choose wisely my words:)
I’d like to build the same structure as whatapedia – one main website and few subsites. For example – a subsite for videos, subsite for events, subsite for job searching etc.
There are two reasons to seek this structure.First because I’d like to have a different look for different subjects, as whatapedia das.The main reason though is the fact that one database is to small to serve large amount of information. This website structure is for multiple users organisation. The clients are more than 5000 and the number will grow. Every client will upload audio and video files or/and many pictures on her/his own page.It is a portfolio website.
As far as I know the Multisite option is not very good for me because of the large amount of users. For that reason I was reading your posts here to learn something more.
Ipstenu, do you think I can do all of that without multiple installations and multisite? Is there an other way?
Thank you so much for your time!

You should really make your own topic ??

Every client will upload audio and video files or/and many pictures on her/his own page.It is a portfolio website.

How are you planning on handling their pages? Do they each have a page on each site?

WP can handle the users, but the organization of the pages has to make sense to you and them.

    Dear Ipstenu,
First of all I’d like to apologise for my late reply. Sorry! I didn’t mean it!
And, please accept my sincere respect to you and your help!
Actually you helped me to realise (finally) that wordpress is not able to handle my project and I moved to drupal which is a user friendly platform.
Most of the functions I’ve looked here are build in in drupal and I’m absolutely amazed that for 3 days I achieved more than I’ve achieved here for few months by trying all bunch of plugins(old dated, or not compatible to other elements).
In this forum are many people wanting to build a multiuser multimedia and multilingual client portals. Drupal is the answer.
Thanks again for you time ??
    Very best,
    Prolet

@whatapedia : I have the same question like you. I want to segregate my multi-niche site into separate niche sites and want those seperate sub-directories to appear as tabs/dropdowns as in your ehow.com example. can you let know how you have managed to do this?
