Multisite Import post fail to attribute to it's proper author
-
I having this issue where I have already Imported and the authors, but when I import a post it always fail to attribute to the correct author it always puts the default author not the original author where it was exported
-
this error is always showing even the author is not yet in the multisite
Their posts will be attributed to the current user. This username is already registered.
I have already activated the debug to true but there is no error showing any suggestion to import my multiple authors on our multisite, take not we use 1 email address for multiple authors
take not we use 1 email address for multiple authors
I assume you mean ‘take note’ and that would be the problem right there.
yes that is “take note”, I have we have used 1 email address for the authors we used a plugin that let’s 1 email address create multiple authors, it exported properly but when it imports it’s doesn’t import the post to the right author
Yes. WordPress doesn’t like one email for everyone, and likely that’s where it’s blowing up.
As a stop gap, make a temp ID that has a different email. Import and use THAT id as the ‘author’. Then select all posts by that author and change the author.
thanks will try that
still fails, I have already input unique email addresses on every authors and export it but this error still shows up ??
Their posts will be attributed to the current user. This username is already registered.
I am importing it into a subdomain multisite, what is the solution for this ??
here is the screenshot error error
You’d have the same problem on a SINGLE install. It’s not Multisite.
Do those usernames exist on the network?
When you import, it SHOULD be asking you ‘Do you want to make a new user, or assign posts by Bob to an existing user?’
I think you should just assign the posts, correctly, and move on.
the problem is we have a thousand post we don’t want to manually assign every single post to each of the author everytime we import here is the flow
main site previously have all the category, post, authors
we switch into a multisite because we want to have the categories separated ex.
old
main site
category
– business
– different authors for every post
– sports
– different authors for every post
– entertainment
– different authors for every post
– etc
– different authors for every postnew
subdomainbusiness.domain.com
– a thousand post
– different authors on every postsports.domain.com
– a thousand post
– different authors on every postentertainment.domain.com
– a thousand post
– different authors on every postwe have hundreds of author and some other authors have post from different categories also
hope that on the export there is a feature that when you choose a category there’s another box where it just show only the authors from that category, so that we will know which authors to export for that specific category ?? is there any plugins do that job?
I didnt say you had to manually assign each post…
Look, when you IMPORT, it outright asks you “Do you want me to make a new user, or assign FOO’s posts to an existing user?”
Do you see that? It’s after you select the file to import, but before it does the import. Sort of an I between step.
(And none of this is a MULTISITE problem. The problem is you’re importing posts and the emails associated with the authors already exist.)
Remember on multisite your users exist for the whole network. So once you make someone, on the NETWORK, the account exists.

I get your point, I see that https://prntscr.com/8u61i but problem is we don’t want to assign the post to that user because it is not the right author for that.
we have a 100+ authors we don’t want to assign 1 by 1 each, hope your
getting my pointand also tried to create the same user on the multi site but it just added the name to the dropdown box, which again as what I am telling if we have 300+ authors that will be a manual work to assign every author existing on the multisite
(And none of this is a MULTISITE problem. The problem is you’re importing posts and the emails associated with the authors already exist.)
I know the author already exist, we just want to migrate the same post to the multisite with the same author as the domain.com have because we will soon delete it once we imported it to the multisite.
problem is we don’t want to assign the post to that user because it is not the right author for that.
Then add the RIGHT user to that site.
You did create these users in the network, right? You just have to add them to the site, then you can assign the posts as needed.
If the authors EXIST, which you keep saying they do, then you need to simply put those users on the site ??
ahhh, I think we don’t have any choice but to do that assigning method on our 200+ authors ?? thanks for the great infos much appreciated
Well, that’s how the import works ??
Add the users to the site, import and assign the posts, author to author.
If you’d not already added the users, WP could have created them, though having the same email address might have caused other issues.
