• Would love to start a Google Chat with someone who REALLY knows multisite. I want to use a common theme and the same plugins across several businesses. Each business has their own brand and several locations. The businesses will NOT use a website, but each of their locations will. Each business will set the slider images and the color scheme. Then, each of its locations will customize to their liking.

    URLS will be like:

    mysites.com/company1
    mysites.com/company1/loc1
    mysites.com/company1/loc2
    mysites.com/company1/loc3

    mysites.com/company2
    mysites.com/company2/loc1
    mysites.com/company2/loc2
    mysites.com/company2/loc3

So, what’s the best way to set up this scenario? One installation of multisite? Or several?

Theoretically, there is a plugin that will let a subsite in a multisite install its own subsites – so mysites.com would be the grandparent, company 1 & company 2 would be the children, and the loc1, etc. would be the grandchildren.

I’ve never tried to use it, and it seems like it would make life as the network administrator immensely complicated.

In this scenario, each business WOULD have to have a website in the network, even though that site might not be used – in order to create those grandchildren sites.

OR, you could just create separate multisite installations.

Bet – you are the bomb. I’m so glad it was you who stepped in to help!

I don’t have to do it the way I suggested. I’ve tried several plugins and solutions and there’s always something whacky. Currently, I’m stuck in a looped URL and I have to punt and reinstall… again.

So, what is the answer? I simply want ONE theme with a set of common plugins to be used for several franchises. I will set the slider images and color theme for each franchise and then set up sites for its set of locations – they can edit and add localization customizations.

I will need to use my domain (eg mysites.com). My original idea was to use the franchise name as the subdirectory (eg mysites.com/franchise1) and then the location as the subsubdirectory (eg mysites.com/franchise1/loc1) BUT this is what’s screwing me.

BTW, my site (eg mysite.com) is the marketing site for the whole thing with its own theme.. that’s why i wanted to set it all up as kinds and grandkids..

Advice? Come on Bet!! You can solve this!!
