    Hello,

I have several separate wordpress websites at my shared hosting account at Godaddy. I am now thinking to bring them all together under a multisite network.

Godaddy shared hosting requires me to buy a dedicated IP to have a multiste network with domain mapping. My existing deluxe hosting plan is about to expire so I am thinking to buy new (because it will be upgraded to ultimate and will be cheaper)

Now,tTheir ultimate hoting plan comes with a free SSL certificate and the SSL brings along a dedicated IP free with it.

The situation is if I want to use this free IP and wish to save my money on purchasing additional dedicated IP, I have to install the SSL (the one which is coming free) to my account/website.

I really do not know much about SSL certificates and their use. So my questions are:

Can I use a SSL to my multisite?
I hope I will not be compromising anything by using SSL?
Is there any better work around for the situation?

Thank you very much all for your kind support!

    Yes you can use SSL.

It won’t compromise anything, but you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. If you’re using Subdomains, you may need to make sure the cert has wildcard subdomains.

In order to use it, you need to set WP up to use SSL, if you don’t, you just won’t use it ??

Thank you very much! I have bought the hosting plan after I read your reply. Can you please help me a little more,, kindly elaborate “you may need to make sure the cert has wildcard subdomains.”

Yes, I will use sub-domains and will map them to individual domain names then.

    Kind regards.

I have come to know that this is not a wildcard ssl certificate its just an standard (single domain) ssl certificate.

I believe this will only cover my primary domain name, as long as its just about ssl I am ok with it. But my concern is to use the free dedicated IP that enables automatically when I install the ssl to my primary domain name. So, does the situation allow me multisite domain mapping without spending any more money for dedicated IP? (Godaddy support email does confirm this, but I do not know the work-around)

All I want is my multisite network mapped to separate domain names and at the same time save my money by escaping the purchase of dedicated IP?

Grateful to you for your help ??
