Using word press for a single site on windows seems to work great! However we needed it to work in multi-site mode, that’s a nightmare!
The problem is we are running windows server 2003 and Microsoft Sql 2008. After running it as a single site and successfully connecting to our database using a SQL driver I thought that multi-site mode should be a snap. After setting it up in multi-site mode everything went downhill fast! The site works but does some strange things. Example: If you click on the dashboard link from the header menu at the top it simply just reloads the home page. So how do you get to the dashboard? Well you just click on any one of the other links that will take you to wp-admin such as the themes link then click on the dashboard link in the left column. If you click on Mysites it shows the root site and the one sub site I set-up. However if you click on the sub-site you get http 400 bad request. It’s not listed in the network admin sites area either. However it is set-up in the database and you can get to the settings page. We have doubled check everything we know of. We have an alias dns record for this domain and it works! Also we believe the htaccess and the wp-config files are set up correctly, we are using IIS Mode rewrite by micronovae which seems to be working. We also us it on others sites that we know work and permalinks works on this site!! I don’t really understand how this sub site system works and I understand that this was mainly set up for apache and Mysql, however sense the IIS server is serving pages and the rewrite is working and it is communicating with the database you would think this would work also.
