multiple website under the same domain

Hey Guys,
I am just after a bit of direction for this new project that I am starting. Basically what I am after us to set up a bunch of small websites under the same domain. In a sense it would be like wordpress.com or wix.com. A client will contact me and ask me to set them up their ‘profile website’ which I do and it is all under the same domain. Each website is completely separate as it has it’s own menu/background/css etc.
I will make all the websites myself either by using different page templates or with a plugin. I am currently doing this by page templates where I make a page template then allocate it an external css file and create it’s own menu. The user can login to the main page then be taken to their respective website to view.
The way that I am currently doing this is the long way around I am sure and I would like to know if there are any easier/quicker ways to do this.
Any info that would help me streamline my process or if their is a plugin/s that can help me then it would be much appreciated.
