Multiple slow requests during facebook outage

  • During the Facebook outage on Oct 4th the plugin was making 400-500 requests per minute to Facebook with all of the requests ending up in the php-slow.log. This caused sites to run very slow. I know a Facebook outage is not a normal situation, but the plugin should not assume a connection is always available.
