Multiple sites with dev site with different themes

Hello,
I’ve search for weeks on How-To make this configuration without success. Maybe someone will be able to help me.
I have a production WordPress site, let’s call it production.com with $table_prefix ‘prod_’
It’s been running for a while now and I want to change the Theme and many other things like the plugins in use. Since the site wasn’t mine at first the former administrators did change a lot of things in the main theme not in a child one. Posts are made on a daily basis.
I want to have a dev site let’s call it dev.com with $table_prefix ‘dev_’. I DO need to have dev.com with data coming from production.com but using options table from the dev.com.
Something like that :
prod_comments
prod_links
prod_posts etc…
but :
dev_options
I did try to configure something with HyperDB but with no luck up to now.
Can someone help me to make this configuration live ?
