    Hi Jamie,

I am very interested in your plugin WC Vendors. I am currently evaluating your free version after not being satisfied by WooCommerce Product Vendors by WooCommerce.

The functionality I need in a marketplace plugin is the ability to have users have multiple roles. For example, a contributor needs the ability to sell items through WooCommerce as well as editors and authors.

Are there any user role plugins that are compatible with MC Vendors so that when a Vendor is approve, that user can keep the Vendor role and then perhaps an additional role such as Contributor can be assigned manually?

    Thank You
    David Smith

    Hi @davidandrewsmithjr

Users can have multiple roles in our system. Any role editor plugin should work, so long as it doesn’t remove existing roles but just adds them. I have personally used User Role editor in testing and have vendors with vendor and customer roles so adding editor or author roles shouldn’t be an issue.

    cheers,

    Jamie.

    Hi Jamie,

The plugin you mentioned User Role Editor has had a security violation in the past.

Ok, I will try to test out the Members plugin by Justin to see if it compatible.

If it is, I will consider purchasing your pro version.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi David,

User Role editor hasn’t had a security issue in almost 4 years. However you’re welcome to test other plugins.

You can always launch a demo from our website and test any plugin you want within the demo environment. You have full admin access to install any plugin or theme for testing compatibility.

I was able to get a demo running to make some tests. Thank you for that suggestion.

I was able to install the Members plugin and see it work. When I have the Vendor & Editor roles for a user, it seems work as expected.

    1) However, here is a problem that I see. When a user is an Editor or has some role that has some type of access to the backend dashboard, then while in the state Pending Vendor, the access to the backend is not allowed. So for example, any Editor role will have to wait for manual approval before having access to the backend again. Is this the intended design?

    2) Also, I was unable to test this. When a user has a role, say Editor, Contributor, Author, and then they apply for the Vendor role. Now if the Pending Vendor role is removed and the Vendor role is added by the admin using the Members Plugin, will the user be sent an email that their application was accepted?

I was not able to test this because I could not get the email address to change, (I never received the confirmation email for change of email address on the Vendor 1 account) and I could not find a registration form for a new account on the demo.

    In summary:

    1) Will the Editor (Contributor, Author) roles have to wait for manual approval before having access to the backend again.

    2) Does the acceptance email work when using the Members plugin?

    Thank you for your time.

Hi Jamie, Here is an update. I was able to verify that 2) above works fine. In other words so far I believe that Members plugin and WC Vendors works fine together. I was able to get the emails to send when changing roles using the Members plugin.

As far as (1) goes, it is not a deal breaker but I am still wondering if that is by design. I do feel that a manual approval is the best option.

Please let me know what you think about (1).

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi @davidandrewsmithjr

Sorry about the delay in reply! Regarding 1) if the primary role is not pending_vendor than I believe that they would still get wp-admin access.

    cheers,

    Jamie.
