multiple queries and pagination

hey guys, ive got a category page that queries the posts for two separate categories and includes pagination for them:

news category page has two queries
general – with pagination
specific – with pagination

but the pagination doesnt work as it comes up with 404. my only idea of a fix is to add a custom var to the page query so the correct queries are paged.
