Even though we only have one GA code specified in the plugin settings, and only one code shows up embedded in the source code, two other codes that we used previously are still sent in header responses and data is still being sent to those alternate sources. I can see this in Developer Tools under the Network tab – if I refresh the page with this plugin enabled, 3 different codes show up in the header response. If I disable the plugin, no codes show up. So somehow they are all coming from this plugin, but how is it still holding on to previous codes? I have cleared site cache multiple times and searched the database for the old codes – nothing in there. Does it cache embed codes somewhere else?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    WP version: 6.5.2
    GA Google Analytics version: 20240308
I cannot share any URLs – this is a private intranet site.

    Thank you.

    Glad to help.

Normally this plugin adds only one instance of tracking code to your web pages. The only exception would be the “Custom Code” setting, where additional trackers could be added. So if that setting is blank/empty, the extra tracking codes must be added from some other script, plugin, or maybe something the theme is doing.

Normally I would agree with you, but all 3 codes show up when the plugin is enabled and all 3 codes disappear when the plugin is disabled. This pretty clearly indicates the source of the problem, although not the cause.

All 3 codes show up in the response header, while only one of the three is embedded in the code – prefixed by the GA Google Analytics comment. All 3 properties receive data. I found this to be very strange behavior, and thought your developer(s) might at least want to know about it.

If there’s no known explanation or curiosity I’ll move on to other solutions. Thanks anyway.

EDIT: Can confirm there is nothing saved in the 3 “Custom Code” input boxes.

    Okay understood.

I am able to investigate if I can repeat the issue on default WordPress. So far, I am unable to do so.

Also you might try switching to the default WP theme and try again, just in case it is the theme that is doing something weird.

Thanks again Jeff – I think we can mark this as resolved, it doesn’t seem to be this plugin’s fault after all.

Upon further investigation this has something to do with having 3 properties which are somehow interconnected in Google Analytics itself, though I am not sure how they are linked. At any rate, I tried manually embedding the code and it still produced the same 3 headers.

So despite looking very much like this plugin was the cause I guess it is not! Google Analytics sure does a good job making its interface as confusing as possible.
