    Hi There,

Every six months or so I seem to have an issue with multiple newsletters being sent out to the same subscribers, it’s happening again. In the control panel mailpoet is sending the same newsletter out to the same database three times. How to I fix this as it’s annoying my subscribers.

Just to add in the All Newsletters schedule section it’s added two duplicates of my weekly newsletter and the program is sending this out to everyone, I’ve paused the duplicate campaigns that somehow have been created.

Hello Kazryll, sorry to hear that.

Try what is suggested here: https://support.mailpoet.com/knowledgebase/duplicated-newsletters/

Let us know if this solves your issue.

As I wrote via twitter that is not the issue, the program is adding additional scheduling it’s done this before. Last time someone from your support logged in and fixed the issue. Last week it sent 2 duplicates, this week 4 duplicates I haven’t had an issue for + 8 months.

    Hi Kazryll,

If you’re experiencing duplicated newsletters, you’ll need to create a cron job in your server and uncheck the MailPoet’s cron like that KB article already shared.

Here’s a guide to create a cron job in your server: https://support.mailpoet.com/knowledgebase/configure-cron-job/

The cronjob is not the issue here, I have that set up. It’s not sending duplicate newsletters it’s scheduling duplicate newsletters, and then sending them out it’s a plugin issue.

This issue has occurred before and Benjamin Caubere fixed it last time it was a bug on MailPoet’s side.

@kazryll okay, let’s first determine the real issue. We are not aware of the plugin “scheduling duplicate newsletters”, what we know happens is that the plugin duplicates the sending newsletter and starts sending twice the same newsletter. It’ll appear 1 additional copy of your newsletter with the exact same name on your newsletter listing, is that right?

    Hi,

I have the same issue and it’s getting much worse. Users got the nightly email THREE TIMES but I’m so confused about what to do here. Lot’s of confusion!

    1. your website contradicts itself all over the place. It constantly repeats everywhere that if you have low traffic, you cannot use mailpoet’s cron. But now you are saying because I have high traffic, I cannot use it? I’m very confused,
    2. under geeky options it says “enable mail poets cron” and then there are two options – the first one being “I’ll setup a cron myself”. Sooo… why is “I’ll setup a cron” a subset of “enable mail poets cron”? Which is it? am I using my own cron or mail poets cron when I have a “high traffic” website?
    3. what happens if I don’t check off “enable mail poets cron”? There is a possibility the emails will be sent?
    4. okay hate to repeat #2 but if I check off “use mail poet’s corn” then why am I also setting up a cron on my server?
    5. Finally – I have multiple emails with different schedules… so what frequency should I use in the manual cron? (and again, if I’m manually adding this cron per these instructions https://support.mailpoet.com/knowledgebase/configure-cron-job/?utm_source=wpadmin&utm_campaign=advanced_settings ? – shouldn’t I then UNCHECK “use mail poets cron”?

Lastly – I don’t even know if I can setup a cron as I am using a managed wordpress service from wpengine and I don’t see any cron settings. I will call them now. But if I can’t add a cron – where does that leave me?

    Very confused – Ben

    1. Yes, that’s correct. With low traffic, you can’t rely on the Cron to send on the intervals you need. If you have too much traffic, the process can start several times, this is a WordPress Cron thing. That’s why the best option on both cases is to have a dedicated server side cron job to hit MailPoet’s Cron URL (you need to activate that option).

    2. You should enable the option that says “I’ll setup a cron myself…”. This option means that you’ll 1.Enable MailPoet Cron URL and 2.Your cron job from your own server will be responsible for visiting that URL. You should use MailPoet Cron URL with the option “I’ll setup a cron myself…” if you have a high traffic website.

    3. If you don’t enable that option, you’ll rely on your site’s visitors to trigger your sending process (might work or not depending on your site’s traffic), but you are most likely to have duplicated newsletters.

    4. Because if you enable that option, your emails will only be sent if that specific URL is visited. Your visitors won’t be able to trigger it since it’s a hidden url (non public). This is why you won’t have duplicates.

    5. Set your server side cron job to hit MailPoet’s Cron URL each 1 minute. No, you should have MailPoet’s Cron URL enabled with the option “I’ll setup a cron myself…” chosen.

    6. You can create one with these free services: https://www.setcronjob.com/ or https://www.easycron.com/

Hi Thank you – I still don’t fully understand everything. In particular #3 – if I don’t check off “enable mail poet cron” then what happens? Obviously since that options exists, it means emails COULD BE SENT without enabling the mail poet cron – how?

Okay so I am currently set to “enable mail poet” and “I’ll do it myself” – and wpengine said they set crons to run every minute and they say this should work. However, I didn’t give them a URL and they said their system can’t accept a URL… so do they not know what they are talking about? Based on this – do you think it won’t work?

Is setcronjob or easycron needed if I have premium mail poet?

Through your default WordPress Cron that is activated by your visitors.

It won’t work if you can’t send them a URL, specifically the MailPoet Cron URL. Their cron might just visit yourwebsite.com/wp-cron.php which is innefective in your case.

If you have the Premium version, you don’t need these external services, since Premium users use a dedicated MailPoet server to visit their MailPoet Cron URL.

As I don’t seem to be able to post a screen shot of the plugin scheduling extra newsletters please advise an email on where I can send this to thank you.
