Multiple Multi sites from a single Root Domain?

  • Hi there:

    I’m wondering if it’s possible to run multiple wordpress multi-sites from a single root domain. The reason I ask is I’ve just signed up for a shared hosting account with Siteground. I have a number of clients I’ll be transferring over, many of whom have 2-3 websites and was thinking of creating seperate multisites for each client who has multiple sites to manage.

    Any thoughts?

    PS: I know this can be done using sub-directories but I’d like to use the sub-domains method.

  • AFAIK, not possible with subdomains because of the wildcard domain necessary for subdomains to work. It’s also not really a great idea to be on shared hosting with multisite. You’ll want to avoid spammers and a dedicated IP is a good idea.
