Multiple language versions of same post – under *single* heading – possible?
-
Is there any possible way (plugin, core modification, w/e) with which I can have a “switchable” version of the same post in multiple languages – under ONE header?
I.e. “Post Title” [EN][ES][RU][FR]
Clicking on the language links/icons would switch the post from the detaul (English) version to one of the other versions. Where would those versions come from? Initially, they would be auto-translated “virtual copies” (from the Transposh plugin), but for important content, I would like to have the pages translated by a human.
Right now, I’m using Transposh, but while it’s an excellent plugin for “on-the-fly” translation, there’s a number of issues with using it for permanent multi-language content storage. Also, Google is not a big fan of “virtual pages”, so it’s a possible SEO issue. But most of all, it’s not obvious that content is available in multiple languages – I would like to have language icons somewhere near the post title.
I don’t want to use WPML, because it’s not exactly what I’m looking for, and because I don’t want to pay for it annually. It’s the principle of the matter.
Currently, my solution is to have separate posts for content in English and Spanish, or English and Russian. Here’s an example:
https://www.implied-inference.com/
is the Russian (human translated) version of
————
Another example:
is the Spanish version of
————-
Ideally, I would like to have a solution which would avoid having duplicate entries like this (messes up the viewer’s experience), but would make it VERY clear to a reader that a particular piece of content is available in “their” language – whether it’s auto-translated, or “polished” by a human.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
