• Hello,
I hope the best to all of you.
Your plugin is really a simple and powerful approach! You rock!
I need “only” some explanations, sorry for my ignorance.

    – I need to build a Web Portal in which every User has its own Multi Language eCommerce.
    – I’m looking for an alternative not involving WPML multi language approach.
    – I’ll use WPMU Dev products, their MarketPress eCommerce solution.
    – By using WPMU DevMarketPress eCommerce, the Multi Site installation is directory based,
because I need a single checkout also.

If I understand correctly, your plugin needs a Multi Site WP installation and than:
    – I have to decide which site is the “language parent one”
    – I need to duplicate the “language parent” in a number of “language clones” equal to the number of “additional languages” needed
    – Set in the plugin options who is the “language parent” and which are the “language clones” affected

But I have a doubt about the structure, so I ask you:
    – the “parent” can only be 1, the “main firs installation”, and so the Network Sites are all its own “language clones”?

    – or can I create 1 “language parent” per User, and than create how many “language clones” each User needs,
so that every User can manage its own number of translations?

This second is what I need. And if it’s possible, if it could work just fine with WPMU Dev products for eCommerce.
In other words: can I do what I need by a WP Multisite or I need a WP Multi Network? (the less used config in the world!)

    MULTI SITE (main first installation)
    ______________________________
    I I I
    U1 EN U2 EN U3 EN
    U1 de U2 de U3 de
    U1 es U2 es U3 es

MULTI NETWORK (core, than each MS is a Multi Site core)
                         I
    I___ MS 1___I I___ MS 2___I I___ MS 3___I
EN de es EN de es EN de es

    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards.

  • Hi there,

    last things first. ??

can I do what I need by a WP Multisite or I need a WP Multi Network?

You can do what you described with a standard WordPress multisite.
But this would lead to all shops (in whatever language) sharing one single userbase. This is most likely not what you want to have, right?
I’d rather go with a multi-network, I guess. The shops of two individual users don’t have anything to do with each other, right?

As to your other questions (even if kind of obsolete when using a multi-network)…
MultilingualPress doesn’t have a single language parent – in fact, there’s no such thing as a language parent at all. ??
When you create a new site in your network, you can create it based on an individual existing site. This basically means that the site is duplicated, and the content of the two sites is related to each other. After you have manually adapted ( i.e., translated) the content, the two sites are translations of each other.
This workflow might be ideal for various use cases, but not for all, of course.
You can also just create a new empty site, assign it a language, relate it to other sites, and then create new content and relate that to individual remote posts, one by one, as you see fit.

What I think you don’t know: in a single WordPress multisite, you can have multiple independent language-groups of sites.
So, you could have an English and a German blog, and a shop in English, German, and Spanish. The blog sites and the shop sites don’t have to have anything to do with each other. Just to have said that.

I hope I could be of help.

    Kind regards,
    Thorsten

    Yes, very very helpful indeed.
So if I understood correctly, in a Multi-Site installation:

    – User 01 can have 1 site (blog/forum/shop) with “x” number of “translation clones”
    – User 02 can have 1 site (blog/forum/shop) with “x” number of “translation clones”
    – User 03 can have 1 site (blog/forum/shop) with “x” number of “translation clones”
    – Each and every site is unique and related only to its own “language clones”

Your suggestion about to use a Multi Network depends only on the fact that
in that way all the shops do not share the same database, but each one has its own DB, or there’s something else I should consider?

Also… could you tell me if you know about a method or “plugin” to “force” a WP Multi Site installation to use different DBs for each and every Network Site, or if it must be done “hard coding”?

Thank you very very much for sharing your knowledge.
I will not bother you anymore.
    All the best!
