Hi. I’m having an issue with site indexing. Google Search Console is reporting no errors and saying that my sitemap was discovered successfully and discovered 165 URL’s, but it’s only showing 8 URL’s submitted and indexed.

A lot of pages are showing as “Duplicate without user-selected canonical” and “Duplicate submitted URL not selected as canonical”. Also it’s showing Crawled – currently not indexed pages.

I don’t know if this is because of an issue that Yoast was having in the past few weeks with indexables, where the plugin had to reindex things a few times or what.

    ?????

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

UPDATE: I’m also noticing that Google is indexing UTM parameter in URL’s that I have set up to track type-in traffic through Google Analytics.

For example https://thenameguy.com/hitco/?utm_source=hitco.com&utm_medium=301 is being indexed, but I set up Hitco.com to forward to that link, so that I could track type-ins of that domain name through Google Analytics.

When I look this up in Google Search Console Help, I find answers that say there’s an issue with the site using proper rel=canonical tags on these URLs.

From what I see, the rel=canonical tags are correct, so I’m confused and makes me think these issues are connected.

@remarkable1 Is that URL one of those that is showing as “Duplicate without user-selected canonical”? If not can you please provide us with one of them that is?

We did review the source code of that page, and did n’t find an issue with the canonical tag on it and when checking the site in a Google search here it is showing over 100 indexed URLs.

How many of the URLs in question have been redirected? The warning looks like it can be related to Google finding it a duplicate when the URL is redirected:

@devnihil https://thenameguy.com/lendcredible/?utm_source=lendcredible.com&utm_medium=301 is one of the URL’s showing up as “Duplicate without user-selected canonical”.

40 other URL’s with parameters just like that are showing up as “Duplicate without user-selected canonical”and they all point to pages where the canonical is in the page source.

There are 68 pages that are listed as “crawled but not indexed” and they are all connected to a URL parameter type link as shown above.

There are 56 pages listed as Duplicate, “submitted URL not selected as canonical”

There are 40 URL parameter type links showing as “Indexed, not submitted in sitemap”.

What are the over 100 indexed URL’S you’re seeing, because GSC is only showing 9 valid URL’s as submitted and indexed. Everything else that’s indexed is parameter URL’s and they shouldn’t be indexed.

For example https://thenameguy.com/lendcredible is what should be indexed …

    Not https://thenameguy.com/lendcredible/utm_source=lendcredible.com&utm_medium=301

    Hi,

We think Google is confused. We say this as https://thenameguy.com/hitco/?utm_source=hitco.com&utm_medium=301 shouldn’t be appearing in Google with the UTMs as the canonical is https://thenameguy.com/hitco. See image https://pasteboard.co/J9BBNmx.png.

Yoast is outputting well over 100+ URLs from the sitemaps https://thenameguy.com/sitemap_index.xml.

    We suggest the following actions:

    1. Clear all your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser. If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide:?https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/.

    2. Delete your sitemap in Google. Doing so will not hurt the SEO of the site. This guide explains more (scroll to the bottom):?https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183669?hl=en.

    3. Submit the sitemap again. Be sure to submit only sitemap_index.xml and nothing else.?This guide explains more:?https://kb.yoast.com/kb/submit-sitemap-search-engines/.

    4. Monitor the results to see if the issue resolves and pages get indexed.
