• Hey there,

We have 3 corporate websites as the .com was not available.

    • site.com.au
    • siteuk.com
    • site.co.nz

We’d like to manage them via the one WP, instead of 3 as we currently do.

    My questions are:

    1. Does multisite allow for the management of 3 different domains? I’ve read a lot about subdomains, but we need to keep the domains as they are.
    2. If not, and multisite only allows for a primary domain with subdomains, can the outcome be achieved with multisite + remapping and will the end users be aware of this?
    3. Is remapping a lot of work to maintain or is it done at the setup of the site and additional pages will automatically be remapped to the pre specified URL?
    4. How will this affect SEO? Currently our 3 sites are competing against each other, when ideally we’d like them to be displayed as different versions of the same site.
    5. Thank you!

  • 1. A Network can create sites with multiple domain names. It doesn’t have to be sub-domains or sub-folders.

    2. See above. ??

    3. Once you’ve got the doamins set up you don’t need to do anything else. There’s no need to change things that are working already.

    4. SEO is a very specialised thing, and is way outside the scope of these forums. I’d suggest looking at a few other places to see what can be offered there, or talking to a professional to get a better understanding.

I am trying to get this working. Are you saying you don’t need to setup apache config, this seems counter-intuitive?

I also want to setup Lets Encrypt SSL. The advice in this world is great.

Anything to do with setting up Apache and Lets Encrypt is outside the scope of these forums, but yes that would need to be set up. I didn’t mention those points as you didn’t mention anything about them in your initial post.

WordPress itself will handle what you want to do. Everything else will just need to be set up to point to the right places. If you need help with that I’d suggest looking at another forum that’s more specialised focusing on those topics.
