• This might sound stupid, but does the new release have the feature of having multiple blogs with one installation? And how…? :/

  • nope. it’s being worked on though. ??

1.3 is the projection for that.
In the meantime you can just install multiple copies of wordpress and in your config file change the prefix for the database tables. Which means everything is stored in just one database.

    Alright, thank you!

I’m trying to understand this issue: Currently, without any super-hacking, I can have: 1) multiple copies of WP with using one database; and 2) multiple copies of WP, each with their own db. Anything else would require fancy-pants hacking. Is this correct? Thanks.

    Yup ??

Ok, thanks podz. Next Q: The most frequent instruction to have more than one copy of WP share a db is generally something like this: ‘change the $table_prefix in your wp_config.php file for each when setting them up.’ Is this right? My host offers Fantastico so when I did an initial install I didn’t really have to do anything. I want both methods of “multiple” copies too ~ two that share a db and three that have separate dbs ~ so I just want to make sure I’ve got it straight before I dive in. Thanks!

If you are installing WordPress into a database that already has WP in there, you must change the prefix
    By default it is ‘wp_’
Altering that to ‘wp2_’ would be fine.
If you are installing into a new db, then just leave things as they are for each install.

Ok ~ that make sense to me. Thanks again.

Wow, this is old, but I’ve got the same question for the new version (1.5.x). Can I set up multiple blogs from within the admin page?

I’m an utter newb, so talking too much code won’t help. What I really want to know is what the URL’s will look like. For instance, I’d like to have different themes for each blog like:

    https://www.mysite.com/blogs/blog1
    https://www.mysite.com/blogs/blog2

“Can I set up multiple blogs from within the admin page?”

No. See this for information on what options currently exist for setting up multiple blogs using WordPress (in regards to a single interface, go to the “Alternative WordPress Projects” section):

Thanks so much! I’ll check it out…
