    Hi all,

I’m trying to find the correct settings or plug in, that will allow me to achieve (working) filtering of attributes that have multiple variations.

The website will be an auto parts store, using Woocommerce.

I would like 3 levels of filtering in this order:
    1) Vehicle Manufacturer
    2) Vehicle Model
    3) Trim/Year

So far, I’ve created some example attributes (just using 1 and 2).

Product variations have been created also, however when trying to filter by attribute this doesn’t work how I’d like it to.

For example, when selecting Volskwagen, I would expect the results to show the following values: “Polo” and “Golf”. However it shows all models that a variation exists for, not only the variations with the manufacturer of Volkswagen.

I’ve tried a few different free plug ins now, none have worked. I’ve contacted a few of the developers/sellers of these plug ins and they refer me to the paid version, without actually answering whether it will achieve what I want. Whilst they do offer a 30 day money-back guarantee or similar, it’s hassle. So I’d like to know if anyone has achieved this first.

I am aware of a couple of different auto parts plug ins that offer similar filtering – but these filter to single “simple” products, not variations as I’m trying to do.

  • Are there a lot of variations in the products? More that 30?

    Try this

    At the moment – no.
I’ve added 3 different manufacturers, and about 6 different models.

Both are separate attributes. This is the information I’ve populated so far:

    1) Vehicle Manufacturers:
    Ford
    Honda
    Vauxhall
    Volkswagen

    2) Vehicle Models:
    Astra MK5 VXR
    Civic EP3 Type R
    Civic FN2 Type R
    Corsa D VXR
    Fiesta MK7 ST180
    Focus MK2 ST225
    Golf MK7 R

I’ve then created a variable product with the following variations:
    1) Manufacturer: Volkswagen, Model: Golf MK7 R
    2) Manufacturer: Ford, Model: Fiesta MK7 ST180
    3) Manufacturer: Ford, Model: Focus MK2 ST225

Now, on the product page, the filtering works fine. I select Volskwagen, I can only see “Golf MK7 R” in the drop down for Vehicle Model.

However, on the Shop Catalogue page, using the Woocommerce “Filter by Product Attribute” widget, this is where the issue arises.

If I select Volkswagen for the Vehicle Manufacturer, under Vehicle Model I get 3 results, Golf MK7 R, Fiesta MK7 ST180 and Focus MK2 ST225. Not just the models for the “parent” attribute as such.

    Hi there @aem129 ??

You could use our Product Filters for WooCommerce extension, to create AJAX product filters that make the process of finding products in your store simple and fast.

I hope that helps, otherwise let us know.
