• I have a very real need for this functionality, but it seems that WordPress doesn’t support this by default, and the plugin I found that does is half a decade old. Any advice is greatly appreciated, as requiring a different email for every account may force me to reevaluate WP, which is not the option I really want.

    thanks,
    Gordon

The emails are used for notifications. What scenario do you have where real user accounts would share an email address?

The reason I am asking is that the answer to that question may help others provide a solution.

I use WordPress and the Academy theme to offer web training, and often a customer will want to set up a second account as a generic company account, so that multiple people can access the content, but the manager still wants to use their own email for that second account. The time required to create and monitor a dummy account is pure waste.
