I run a French/English website and would like to show a language-dependent archive page. I created the archive page with the Simple Yearly Archive shortcode, but this results in both languages shown together. The bilinguism of the website is handled by WPML. Am I doing something wrong or is this not compatible with this plugin?

Any info on how to help with this would be greatly appreciated!

    (Nice clean archive otherwise!)

    Hey dcclxi,

what do you mean by “results in both languages shown together”? May you please provide a link to your archive page?

    Hi Oliver,

I cannot provide a link to the website (real mess, under construction). The archives page with the plugin looks like this (copy-paste) :

    2014 (2)
    – 19 January — Ressources [a]
    – 19 January — Ressources [A]
    2013 (8)
    – 20 May — Daddy is lagging behind [B]
    – 20 May — Papa à la tra?ne [b]
    – 5 March — Franglais [c]
    – 5 March — Association de mots [d]
    – 5 March — Frenglish sentences [C]
    – 5 March — Word associations [D]
    – 14 February — Et c’est parti pour les phrases [e]
    – 14 February — Starting to make sentences [E]
    2012 (16)
    – 10 November — The grand-parents effect [F]
    – 10 November — L’effet grands-parents [f]

I have put in square brackets the posts that are paired (lower case for the French version, upper case for the English version). I’d like the archives to show only “upper-case/English” posts if the reader chose to view the site in English, and only the “lower-case/French” posts if s/he chose French.

    Hi dcclxi,

hard to say as WPML seems to be a paid plugin, so it’s hard for me to check.

Can you please install (the previous) version 1.4.3.3 of the Simple Yearly Archive plugin and see if the issue persists? Just want to check something…

    Hi Oliver,

Thanks for not giving up on my issue! I finally got time to try 1.4.3.3. I am afraid it yields the same problem: the archive page show all posts of both languages together rather than just French posts or just English posts.

I am pretty sure the issue lies with your plugin though. I have other plugins installed that don’t exhibit this problem (e.g. “Category Content”, “Yet Another Related Posts” only show posts in the same language as that chosen to view the site).

At the bottom of this page https://wpml.org/documentation/support, there are links that seem aimed at developers. Perhaps that would help you understand what is the cause of this problem?

    Hi dcclxi,

the reason why I asked you to install 1.4.3.3 was to check something. The 1.4.x branch used the WP API function get_posts, but I switched to direct SQL queries with version 1.5 for performance reasons so I wanted to make sure, both API functions and direct SQL queries are causing the issue.

I already read through their documentation and might have found what might help me, but I’d need a playground to test the changes.

That’s where you step in. ?? Would you be willing to send FTP credentials so I can work on the changes on your site. Of course, I wouldnt touch any other files than the ones of my plugin. If it’s okay with you, please send it to scripts (at) schloebe (dot) de

    Thank you!

I just sent you an e-mail. Let me know if you did not receive it.
    Thanks already!
