    hi!

i’m trying to set up a multi channel blog. let me tell you what i’m understanding as a multi channel blog:

let’s say we have a blog with “the supercar” as main topic. now i want two discussing channels (maybe realized with two categories). i want different groups of users discussing in this two “channels” maybe in the one channel just the designers and in the other channel the engineers. so all i have to realize is, that i can say which user is allowed to post in which category. it should also be able that new users can register in each channel. so if a user is registering in the design channel, he should automatically just be able to post in this channel (category). i hope you have an idea what i want to realize!

    now my question:
is there any wp-hack or plugin that does what i wanna do?

the whole blog should look as one big website with two different groups of users discussing in two different “channels”… i hope you can help me.

    greetz, Neo_II

no idea? i REALLY need some help with this problem…

What you have described looks more like a forum/bulletin board than a blog…

it should actually be something like a “2 in 1 blog”

I’m pretty sure there is a plugin to limit which category an Author can post in. So, yes. Unfortunately I don’t know the plugin name. The Role Manager plugin might do it.

I don’t know if that plugin handles Registration, you might have to give the category permissions to each new registrant. How many people do you expect to register, is it a lot?

@dgold: thanks a lot! for the first time it’s just a test installation if such a system can work. it’s for a paper, i write for my university.

    btw: can categories have sub-categories?

    cat1
    – cat1a
    – cat1b
    cat2
    -cat2a
    -cat2b

so that i can use the role manager to allow a user to post in cat1 (and all it’s childs)

    thanks a lot!

well i haven’t tried Role Manager, but I have heard of others doing what you wanted. I hope that’s working for you.

Yes you can make sub-cats in WP, with ease.

maybe you can remember the name of these plugins one day ??

    Limit Categories
in the Codex: > Plugins > Restriction.
