• Ok, I have a 3.0 install and the initial setup type is a news/political/community. At first only the owner of the group will post but within a couple months he wants to expand to allow other chapters to purchase a membership which would allow them to have there own blog.

I really need an easy plugin to handle all the membership/Paypal stuff. I searched and found s2Member but at the time only allows for a single blog, they do indicate that they will be updating the plugin to allow for multisite.

Is there any other plugins that do this sort of thing? I’m looking for a free plugin the group would only make money from the donations for buying there own blog on the site as well as donations through paypal.

Please anything you can help with would be great, I’m just getting started in my web development career. I know a little bit about a lot of things which sometimes causes me problems in sifting through all the info out there.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I have had the same problem and found most free plugins are not supported anymore with membership. wpmudev does have what we need but requires $75 a month for month to month 3 months it goes down and a year lower.
I was thinking of joining for a month or three and downloading what I can then canceling membership until I really need to rejoin. if there membership was lower I bet there would be more people using it.

There are a few paid solutions for membership search Google.

Cheapest free way is to just setup a regular paypal subscription payment with a link in a post. get the admin to manually create the blog in the backend. Done.

Simple answer is no, there is not a “free” plugin. I see they way your talking about just using paypal payment, and thats fine, whenever a new blog needs to be made someone just makes it on request. The issues is about members signing up to be apart of the community. Keeping track of all the people signing up for it, and email listing of sorts? Also only allowing comments after signing up for a membership? That sort of thing. How do I do all that? I’m starting to ramble on because I’m freakin’ out I don’t know if I know how to do all of these things….

Only allowing comments after they sign up is *built in*. Options in the backend.

You can change the settings to be user signups only. Again, it’s in the backend.

ok, yes your right, I’m making a mountain out of a mole hill. I realize that most of that is done natively, I have just never done any of this and is beginning to get overwhelming.

You didn’t mention if you have or had not used the s2Member plugin, I was just curious if you had any experience with it or knew anything about it.

I don’t think that I have thanked you for your time/help, so Thank you.

I’ve seen the plugin, downloaded it, but haven’t had time to play with it.

    (you’re welcome ?? )

I took the plunge and joined wpmuDev for the first month $75. The first day I was like a crack addict downloading feverishly getting my download fix LMAO

Got everything i Needed and before my membership is up going to search and make sure I have everything current. if I find I’m having too much trouble and need support I guess I will have to join again. once I start making money I will keep the membership alive.
