    Quick Question …

    Is there any difference between running multiple blogs off a single WP install and running multiple sites?

  • Blogs in mu are now called Sites in WP 3.

    What *was* sites in MU is now a Network.

    Kind of, if you’re meaning what I think you’re meaning.

    You can run it either with one install at one domain (domain.com) and multiple blogs (either blog1.domain.com or domain.com/blog1 etc) OR one WP install for domain.com, domain2.com, etc etc and so on and so forth.

    I’m not sure what the terminology will be, since we’re now calling MU (Multi-User) MS (Multiple-Sites) so this may be a bit of a hair split.

    You can do both. Andrea_r explained it recently here

    Actually, the two of you have covered both meanings of my question, one intended and one unintended.

    Sweet. Tag team strikes again. ??

    I installed WP 3 in a subdirectory. Can it work there in multi-sites mode?
    Allready added the extra line to wp-config and sub-directory blogs.dir but Network doesn’t appear in the menu bar/Tools.

    Yes, but note that all your links will be domain.com/subdirectory/blog

    Which line did you add to wp-config?

    Right now I have both of these in there (and I forget which one ‘works’ and which is the old one):

    define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);
    define('MULTISITE', true);

    WP 3.0 is allready working in a subdirectory, without any problems:
    Yes, I used this line:

    define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true);

    But what is not OK is the 404 error when some one registers; but I solved that with a plugin.

    Thanks for the answer, I came here only today, I didn’t receive notification of new post here.

    Thank you and cheers!
