Multi-site support dropped but pro alternative unclear.
-
In the latest update v160120 it states that multi-site support has been discontinued in the free version and that users would need to update to the Pro version to retain multi-site support moving forward.
On your pricing page, however, you show that multi-site is supported on the Single Site Pro Version but this is contradicted by the clause that follows ” Please note that if you run a WordPress? Multisite Network with s2Member Pro active on multiple child blogs or sub-sites within your Network (regardless of whether you use sub-domains or sub-directories), this will always require our Unlimited-Site License.”
If this is the case then please update your pricing page to drop multi-site support from the feature list of the Pro single site license AND please update the changelog to make it clear that people will need to purchase the Unlimited Pro edition to get multi-site support.
Anyone managing sites on behalf of other clients should also be aware of the following:
a) According to the S2Member Pro Terms, legally you cannot purchase the plug-in on behalf of your managed users, they will need to purchase it themselves.
b) According to the S2Member Pro Terms, legally you cannot make Javascript or css enhancements or bug-fixes in Pro files and distribute those to your managed clients as this is considered commercial code with no distribution rights. It is a legal grey area as to whether ANYONE other than S2Member can edit the pro files at all. The S2Member Pro Terms refer to these files as Commercial which implies, but does not explicitly state, proprietary. The Terms clearly state there are no distribution rights for pro files but does not explicitly state there are no modification rights. It does not, however, state that there ARE modification rights.I would like to go on record here to express my appreciation to the plug-in designers. This is a well designed and well maintained plug-in that is unique in the membership plug-in space in its ability to use AWS time-limited links to protect downloadable content. I consider this excellent value for the price.
As a managed service provider I would happily sell more Pro editions if I could purchase the plug-in on behalf of my clients and if modification rights were clarified.
Thanks to the S2Member team. We do want you to have a blended revenue stream model that works for you so that you can keep the S2Member plug-in supported for years to come.
