• I’ve not messed with it for awhile, but is there a way yet to actually create a network and not just a collection of blogs?

I want to have multiple sites, relating to some extent to the same topic, basketball. Each team will have their own site, but I want some content to reach across into other sites. I’d also like a section where all posts are listed.

I can create that within one site, of course, but I’d like for each team to have their own identity, their own color scheme, maybe even their own theme, based on the blogger. If I can’t have the kind of network I want, I’d like to get rid of multi-site.

It’s an awesome plugin, loaded with features and free. It does have multisite considerations in it. I just haven’t explored it.

Basically, I never got the full effect of WPMU and haven’t explored it since. It’s probably more refined or has access to more plugins than before, but right now, my database looks so darn messy, it’s scary.

Also, I LOATHE the Network Admin stuff. I “activated” all my plugins from a network perspective, and on my site’s dashboard they all disappeared. They all still work, menus and all, but they no longer show up. I also get tired of installing a plugin and forgetting I have to activate it via the network.

    I digress—–

I’ve already converted my database and tried a fresh wp-config.php file. The back end looks good. The front end, not so much. My site is at a very down time of year, so I can carve it up a little and screw things up for the next two to three weeks.

Would my next steps be deactivating the plugins, reactivating them, and putting up a fresh htaccess file?

You dno’t have to network activate a plugin unless it requires it. You can still activate them per-site.

What about the part after “I digress”. ??
I need validation, even if it’s, “No, you idiot, that’s not what you do next.”

Sorry ?? Yes, go ahead and turn off plugins (AND try the default Twenty Eleven theme). If that looks good, it may be as simple as a weird plugin or a theme issue.

    and give us a link?

    I’m still getting this error:

    The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
        cookies.

I emptied the htaccess file. I hadn’t backed up the original.

I’m also getting this on my Dashboard:

Domain Mapping Disabled. You must create a network for it to work.

At one point, I had a Domain Mapping Plugin. I’m pretty sure I disabled it. Where might a remnant of it be?

And it won’t let me add plugins. It clearly still thinks I have multisite. ??

Found the problem. I had a domain mapping plugin in the mu-plugins folder. It’s still not giving me an option to add plugins, but the front end shows up.

Go to https://hoosierhoopsreport.com/wp-admin/network/plugins.php and see if it lets you add ’em there.

It says I don’t have sufficient permissions.

    Excellent!

Go into wp_sitemeta in your DB.

    Look up site_admins

What do you have in there?

Wasn’t that one of the tables I was to get rid of?

I’ve converted my site back to single user…for now. I’m looking for a bit of a fresh start.
