I am trying to get a multi-site network together using subdomains without using wildcards because 1and1 does not support them.

I have all my subdomains created and pointed to the folders the other installs are located in, but I’m not sure how not using the wildcard will change the directions for installation.

Also, do I have to do edits to the configs of the subdomain installations, or just the main one?

Thank you in advance for your help!

eager to know this answer as well

The subdomains will not have config files. there’s only one set of files. the subdomains should be pointed to the MAIN folder where wordpress is installed in.

    that;s the bit you missed.

you enable the network the same way.

    Thank you for your reply.

So, you only install WordPress once for this?

    This is my current site:
    https://www.ultimathealthtrends.com

Each section – like The Body, Exercise, etc are currently a separate installation of WordPress. They are all on the same database. What would be the best way to go about activating the multi-site subdomain?

    please type slower ??

How do I do that? I do not see that in the set up, do I have to manually do each one?

Thanks so much for your help ??

So, you only install WordPress once for this?

    yes, that’s the entire point.

Now, if they are all under the same installation, I would still be able – say, have a different header image for each section?

I will be reading your recommended links, thank you.

@bcadventist – which part are you asking about?

    (@bcadventist)

    This

    >>> the subdomains should be pointed to the MAIN folder where wordpress is installed in.

Or maybe she was not responding to me

I can not get my subdomains to come up…. I am new, but think I have done all the right settings

Now, if they are all under the same installation, I would still be able – say, have a different header image for each section?

yes, becasue that’s part of the theme. use a theme with a custom header option.

    >>> the subdomains should be pointed to the MAIN folder where wordpress is installed in.

Or maybe she was not responding to me

I was responding to both. ??

It easier for the volunteers if each person makes their own thread for their exact issues.

    @ Andrea_r
    Excellent. Thank you.
Now, since I’ve already installed it five or six times, am I going to have to recreate all those pages once the multisite is up and running?

I sincerely appreciate your expedient and knowledgeable responses! Thanks in advance. =)

am I going to have to recreate all those pages once the multisite is up and running?

    all what pages?

    Thread Starter cb-rcw

    (@cb-rcw)

All the pages I’ve created on the subsites that I have – since I have each of them installed as separate WordPress sites. Although, since all the pages are virtual – they are stored on the database, aren’t they?

Sorry, I’m decent at customizing the layout of the site, but not all too knowledgeable about these back end details and nitty gritty, if you will…

My site is: https://www.ultimatehealthtrends.com. Each of those top menu sections (except the Contact one) is a separate installation of WordPress, but they all share the same database…

Go to those separate install, hit the Export button.

Go to your new sites, hit the Import button.

Huh… I must be daft or something… I’m having an awful time with this. I started to set up a multi-site network before but stopped because of a complication. Now I’m trying to do it again and it’s erroring out on me – not allowing me to log back in once I am to the point of enabling the network.
