• Hi there,

Apologies but another newbie in dire trouble (and have been for a number of long nights now!)

I had installed wordpress for my fist site; and all was working fantastically well and what a fantastically useful tool it was providing.

The issues started when I tried to install wordpress using the multisite functionality to create a site for/ manage my second separate domain.

My webhost is 1and1 if this is of any help.

The things I have done so far:

    1. Installed wordpress 3.8

    2. Installed (manually) multisite onto primary domain.

    3. Setup the new site in wordpress admin

    4. Pointed domain nameservers to same place as exiting domains wordpress folder in webhost control panel.

What I cannot do now is:

Upon clicking the “dashboard” of the new site in WordPress I am instantly booted out and asked to log back in and get the

ERROR: Cookies are blocked or not supported by your browser. You must enable cookies to use WordPress.

message repeating on me after multiple retries.

I then try to work around and log in a different way and occasionally get a white screen with another error message (altho cant pull this up now)

Thus I am left unable to create/ edit my new site

Is there something/ something massive that I am missing???

  • Is the process for moving wordpress to a different hosting provider straightforward?

There’s likely a plugin but I don’t use it. There two basic steps in doing it manually:
    1) get a copy of the site’s database and import it into the new hosting account using PhpMyadmin
    2) copy ALL files at root and move over to new hosting company

I have tried moving; to no success

I have tried mapping at the current host and the closest I have now got is that upon typing my new domain address into a browser I am presented with the following:

    https://pickwickpuppetclub.com/wp-signup.php?new=winedinerochester.com

i.e. some sort of landing page that appears to have a holding/ landing page for the new domain under its heirarchy; versus what I want is a completely new landing pages/ setup/ ability to edit for the new site.

I still cannot login to the new domains wordpress admin panel to access the dashboard for site2. Still returning the “cookies” statement upon attempting to log in.

Does this give any more clues as to what has happened with the multisite configuration?

Did you map winedinerochester.com to a site in the network admin?

I tried to map it to get it to appear on its own.. Is this even necessary for non-sub domain i.e. a separate site??

Think somewhere along wires have got crossed and I have massively messed up, now struggling to undo

Well … it depends on what your ultimate goal here is, which is unclear.

The issues started when I tried to install wordpress using the multisite functionality to create a site for/ manage my second separate domain.

I took this to mean “I want winedinerochester.com to be a blog on my multisite network, which is installed at pickwickpuppetclub.com”

And if THAT is the case, then the steps are relatively simple.

    1) Make a site on the network: https://pickwickpuppetclub.com/winedinerochester

    2) Park the domain winedinerochester.com on top of pickwickpuppetclub.com

    3) Install domain mapping and map winedinerochester.com to the site winedinerochester on your network

    And that’s really it.
