In reply to this thread which is closed:

The “item-names” given in the settings to each slider-menu-item are not used by the theme at all; in fact, the name of each menu-item is “embedded” directly in the “featured image” of each page.
Now, I am going to add a second language to my web site and having the problem to translate the slider-menu-item-names because they are “embedded” in the pictures.

    I agree.

But a lot of people prefer it this way where the headings are in the images. It allows them to do tricks like put the heading under the hidden bit of the image or turn the heading sideways.

If you look at the theme history in version 1.8 I implemented exactly what you are talking about, so that the headings were generated and superimposed on top of the pictures. But for some reason this was removed. So if you download an older version of the theme you might be able to find a version that has what you are after. I can’t remember which version of the theme that it went back to the old way of doing it, but it might have been 2.6. I can’t remember it was so long ago sorry!

But if you have a look at version 1.8 you will be able to see that it generated the headings on the fly and maybe you can grab some code out of that that will fix the problem.

  • Hello Wayne, I started that topic some months ago.
    Thanks for your reply.
I understand that lot of people prefer to have the name directly into the image, but why to cut out that functionality?
I would suggest to keep both possibilities with an option to enable just one; or, alternatively:

    • if the “item-name” is filled, then use that name at default position
    • if the “item-name” is empty, then the name is (of course) not displayed and the name is the one in the image

    What do you think?
    Best Regards

I can’t remember why I cut out that functionality. It was 8 years ago or so.
It took me a lot of hours to get it working – getting the headings generated on the fly – it was clever and tricky and took a lot of trial and error – and I was pleased with it – so I would not have removed it lightly.

My gut reaction is that something might have changed in WordPress (maybe with the release of WordPress 3???) that made it impossible for me to continue generating the headings on the fly so I had to go back to the old way of doing it

But honestly, I can’t remember it was so long ago.
