Multi-Installation Management Tool

I have been a long time user of WordPress. I swear by it for almost all the web development projects I work on. Using it as a backend for content management allows me to focus on designing great, functional websites, without having to worry about missing functionality later. Kudos to all the developers on their amazing work.

That said, I just spent the better part of two days migrating to a new host, which included moving and upgrading 7 WordPress sites. Is there an installation management tool available? I’ve used the ‘Automatic Upgrade’ plugin which has helped a lot, but I would love a system to actually monitor the status and features of each site individually.

Maybe it is a long shot, but I figured I would ask. What does wordpress.com use? If nothing is available, does anyone have insight into where to start to build something? I’m willing to take a crack at writing something if it doesn’t already exist.
