• With a new install of WP 3 and MU enabled I have installed the WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin.

    Here is the issue that I am working through and I am not sure in which place to resolve it, if possible. I am beginning to wonder if it is possible based on using 1&1 as a hosting provider.

    I have the network enabled in the sub-directory mode. The domain mapping is setup with the IP address of the server.

    Example then having site1.com and then having site1.com/site2 . In the domain mapping then are then setting site2 to be site2.com . So this all appears well but what changes need to be made on the posting provider.

    Thanks for any insights.

    I did check the readme and the blog post you listed. That is where I guess I am not sure where I am missing it.

    1&1 allows for the following options when pointing a domain name someplace:

    * assign to a directory (this is what is done for the main site, site1 from example above, /domains/site1.com as an example)
    * forward the domain via frame redirect
    * forward the domain via http redirect

    Additionally in the DNS control portion these are hosted on 1&1 domain servers and registered with 1&1.

    * Domain Data: General settings either via DNS or CNAME, I currently have site1.com and site2.com set to DNS and have the mail forwarding off to a google apps account
    * Advanced DNS Settings:
    * IP A record and MX records

    Assign it to a directory. Make it the same one your install is in.

    Oh finally. One last item of note was that I noticed on the “domains” page of the super admin when setting up the mapping, that when entering the domain name to not type in https://site2.com but only site2.com. That small but subtle difference made the whole thing start working.

    Thanks Andrea for the extra time and help.
