• A bit has happened with my 2 MultiSite installs lately. Namely …

    – They got hacked
    – I upgraded to 3.1

So it’s proving difficult to work out why my wordpress-mu-domain-mapping plugin has vanished? I certainly didn’t delete it, but my Hosting Company (HostGator) *may* have in their attempts to remove the hacker/bots that were control my Network. Or is that something the hacker/bots would do?

I actually didn’t realise the mapping plugin had been deleted as everything was still working (I could still login to the WP backend of mapped domains). It was only when I went to add-and-map a brand new domain that I realised the plugin was gone. At first I thought v3.1 must have added the mapping as a default feature (hence no mapping in my Network Admin) but some googling has since ruled that out.

Calm seems to have once again returned to my WPMS World, and a few simple extra security strongholds have been implemented. It was a pretty good reminder as to how vulnerable any internet activity can be.

It should be listed in your network admin section /wp-admin/network will have it.

I know it should be there Ipstenu. But it’s not. The entire folder has vanished from both versions of WPMS that were hacked. That’s why I was wondering if it’s something that hackers might delete? It would give them the ability the add new sites and not allow you to access the backend of them. Anyway, maybe I’m just spooked and reading more into it.

I can’t rule out that my hosts (HostGator) deleted while cleaning out and regaining control. However HG were very good with their communications and I doubt they selected one single to folder to delete from both installs without advising me about it.

    * The mu-plugins folders were still in place, along with sunrise.php. But the plugin folder deleted

Well… If the folder is missing from mu-plugins and plugins, then just upload a new one. Only your host access logs can tell you where they went. Or when.

. If the folder is missing from mu-plugins

It wouldn’t be in a folder in mu-plugins.

It’s quite likely your hosts could have deleted it, or renamed the folders, or moved them.

    Just reinstall the plugin.
