I was using the plugin perfectly until the last update, now I can’t enable the plugin because my main currency is USD.

My international customers use PayPal and pay in USD while my local customers (Argentina) use MP and the transaction is done in Argentine Pesos thanks to a currency plugin that allows this, but now I can’t do it anymore.

Do you have any suggestion to solve this problem?

    Hi mairag,

I got your scenario. We’ll try to place a fix to cope with your issue.

However, there’s an important point here: the module disables itself when currency is USD because Mercado Pago do not support USD (at least yet), only local currency for the created credential. The countries that Mercado Pago covers are: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, México, Venezuela, and comming soon Peru. In other words, you can’t make transactions if currency is USD, independently if we enable it in the module.

    Best regards!

Hello and thanks for your reply.
I’m aware of the currency limitation, but the plugin was working ok until the recent update so I imagine something changed there.
I’m using the WC Ultimate Multi Currency Suite which allows changing the transaction currency, so if my customer is located in ARG, the currency is automatically changed to ARS in the front end and the transaction is done in that same currency, not in USD, while the WC currency setting remains in USD, which I assume is the problem here.
This setup was working perfectly for my shop based on my needs, but now I had to cut all my local sales.

    Anyway, I appreciate your time.
    M.

Hi! I saw there’s a new update, it’s not listed in the changelog but I need to ask anyway, did the update address this issue? I had to go back to the unofficial plugin at the moment, but I much prefer this one.

    Thanks!

    Hi mairag,
Yes, we have made an update in the currency handling. It should accept any currency set up in WooCommerce. Please, test it and if you find trouble, notify us here.
    Best regards.

Awesome! I’ll update this topic as soon as I get any local sale. Thanks!

Hi, i’m jumping in because i need to have international customers pay for a product in Euros (don’t mind getting ARS in my account, it’s just easier to sell in Euros). Is this possible now? Will an international card be able to pay for, let’s say, a €100 product and i receive ARS$1645 (minus MP comission)? If that’s the case, i’ll abandon PayU and PayPal right now. Thanks!

A few days ago this wasn’t possible, MP only accepts the local currency, so there’s no way for the client to pay in Euros, MP doesn’t have an exchange rate as PayPal does. I use PP for international customers and MP for local customers and it works fine for me (with a currency exchange plugin).

Let’s see what the devs have to say…

mairag i’ve just tried it In a test site and MP DOES have an exchange rate. My product is in euros, but payment is in ARS. Guess customer’s bank charge them In USD as my bank does when i pay in GBP or EUR when abroad. There’s a checkbox in MP settings (inside WooCommerce) which allows the exchange rate. You should look for it!

Anyway, i’ll wait for the devs before going live.

    Good day mairag and mebugarin,

In yours store, its possible to configure any type of currency, and the module should try to make the proper conversion. If it can’t, it will give a warning message saying that you should manually convert it. This is in module environment.

HOWEVER, in Mercado Pago API/platform environment, we still can’t process currencies outside the countries that it supports. The supported currencies for now are ARS, BRL, CLP, COP, MXN, PEN and VEF. The same applies to international credit cards.

The most important points about currency are:
    1. In the module, we can have some flexibility, but in API we must send only the supported currency;
    2. The currency MUST be the one used in the credential’s country origin. For instance, if your account is from Argentina, it MUST be ARS. The module just converts to fit it to web services;
    3. For now, we can’t process international card (issued outside the supported countries).

    Best regards!

Are international cards in the roadmap? If not, i’ll have to stick to PayU for now.

    Thanks for the reply!

@mercadopago Thanks for the clarification, you explained the issue better than I did…

@meburgarin If you still want to use MP, you can do it with this plugin (you can check my shop for an example): https://codecanyon.net/item/woocommerce-ultimate-multi-currency-suite/11997014

    What it does:

    1. International customer adds a product to cart, prices are in USD.
    2. International customer does check out via PayPal. I receive USD in my PP account.

    1. Local customer adds a product to cart, prices are in ARS (the plugin uses geolocalization).
    2. Local customer does check out in ARS and pay via MP. I receive ARS in my MP account.

I can use an automatic currency exchange rate or add my exchange rate manually (the option I’m using now is 1USD = 10ARS). WooComerce currency is USD.

I hope this is useful for you.

    Hi mebugarin,
Transactions with international cards are in our roadmap, but yet without date to be released. As this type of operation needs inter-bank cross-border, we need first to deal with some financial compliances.

If you still want to use Mercado Pago, the solution given by mairag is a very good one.
We’re at your disposal for additional questions.

Best regards to both of you!
