• Hello,

The all-in-one plugin to move a WordPress site seems straightforward. However, I still have a couple questions:

    I need to move site1.com to site2.com
site1.com is hosted on Host Gator, and site2.com will be hosted on GoDaddy. Site2.com is currently hosted on Wix.

If I change the DNS of site2.com from Wix to GoDaddy, I’m assuming a “Coming Soon” page will appear. But I think I need to make the DNS change before I can even access site2.com/wp-admin and import the files from site1.com

Do you have a recommendation for how to approach this? A little downtime is not a problem.

    Thanks a lot

GoDaddy should have a temporary domain you can use to access the site prior to making DNS changes. It should have been in your account setup confirmation somewhere. If not, their help pages ought to tell you how to construct the temp URL. If not, ask their customer service what your temp domain is.

Once the proper domain’s DNS is changed and has propagated, you’ll need to update the site and home URL settings in WP. Avoid using the temp domain elsewhere on the site to minimize what needs to be changed.

If it’s possible to add the domain to your GD account before making DNS changes (it may have already been added during account setup), you could do so now and use your computer’s hosts file to direct domain traffic to the GD server. Then your new site will behave like the DNS has changed already. You will not be able to access the old site if you do this unless you revert the hosts file and restart your computer.
