So, after watching a few training videos, I attempted to move my WP site from its subdirectory to the root.

    Steps I followed:

-Logged into WP admin and changed Settings:General, WordPress Address and Site Address to just the url name with no subdirectory.

-Using FTP, moved all existing files in root directory into and “old_site” folder.

-Then moved all files/folders in the WP subdirectory to the root directory and deleted the then empty WP directory.

Result: Site is down, can’t access wp-admin.

    Any thoughts?

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If neither of those work, please quote the errors you see when you try to access wp-admin.

Thanks! I’ll give that a try. The weird thing is that others are telling me they can see the site – I can’t, or hit the wp-admin.

Odd. Upon hearing that others outside my network could see the site, I came home to check and I can see the site and access my wp-admin. Have Gone into Permalinks and just “save changes” (per instructions I saw). The site is running – minus a missing logo.

Ok, next time you’re back at the other network, try clearing your browser’s cache.

I had already cleared the browser’s cache, tried different browsers, restarted my computer. I think it was a DNS issue that resolved itself as I am able to see/edit the site from the office now. Thanks for your help. I have two other sites I’m working to convert – with a different host, so I’m slightly nervous. lol

Excellent, glad that worked out! ??
