• Hi everyone,

First, before you try to send me to this page and this page, I’d like to point out that I want :

    1) to move my wordpress files to a subdirectory
    2) update my URL so I can use https://www.domainname.com/blog instead of https://www.domainname.com only. I just want to start a new blog in my new ‘home’ country while not losing my domain name.

I tried to follow the walkthrough provided by WP Codex but it didn’t really help. While I was apparently able to update URLs and move everything to the subfolder I created, nothing showed up on the browser.

I had to move every file back to the htdocs (root) folder and then change the URL values in the database. I did this 3 times already -_- it’s really getting on my nerves and I feel like a moron although I (think I) have a moderate knowledge of how these thing work.

I also had one other issue : I couldn’t find the .htaccess file anywhere. I don’t know if it’s necessary.

  • The real thing is,
*ur theme must use permalink correctly. (99% themes do so)
*go to phpmyadmin and change ur site url
If ur htaccess is untouched, then nothing to do with it.

Hi thanks for your reply – I’m not sure this is exactly what I need though.
I generated a .htaccess file (with permalinks tool…).

But there are no changes so far. I tried to migrate the site once again to the new URL / folder and it simply didn’t work.

I wonder if I should update the Database values in PHPMyAdmin… would it change something?
