Moving wordpress to new server… additional
-
I recently moved my websites to a new server, and had a running blog with a lot of history. I searched the forums here for instructions on moving, and most of them were fairly complex… backing up and restoring the database, copying all the WP files, etc.
The restore of the old DB didn’t work on the new site, but I found moving was far easier than I thought… I just installed a new WP at the new server, did an Export of the history, comments, etc. on the old version of WP (under Tools, Export in the Dashboard), saved this file and Imported it into the new WP (same route, Import). I had downloaded and modified a Theme on my old WP, so I just copied the theme files and inserted them into the new file set on the server, and installed that theme for the new location… works like a charm. Did a second blog with the same process, no issues.
This seems far easier than backing up databases, modifying config files, etc.
