• My host upgraded my site to a new server. They transferred everything to a new account on Cpanel, but I’ve made some updates on WordPress in the mean while. I’ve backed up the data using the WordPress Database Backup plugin. Does this backup include everything on my WordPress, i.e. plugins, theme?

  • Not sure what plugin exactly your are using, but most of the database plugins DO NOT backup the WordPress files (including themes/plugins/image uploads).

    See WordPress Backups.

It’s called “WordPress Data Backup”. So.. how do I move the files that are not included? Do I have to duplicate manually?

Could use FTP to download all the files to your local computer, then use FTP to upload to the new server.

Might also ask your host to do a mass file copy from your web-root on one server to web-root on the other.

Help!!! My host transferred all my files to a new server. I was given a new Cpanel login. Because everything was moved between Cpanel with all the programs and files, I didn’t think I needed to do anything except for minor changes I made in WordPress in the short time between the transfer and when I actually changed my DNS. Now that the DNS seems to have propagated, my front page is not coming up. My host is telling me that I need to rename my index.html file, but I use one of the WordPress page as my front (index) page, I don’t even use index.html in the root. So what do I need to do to get my front page back up?

The WP backup plugin does only update the backend… the database. It does not include the theme or plugins. You have to reinstall or re-activate those.

For me, considering you are using cPanel with easy access to login and use phpmyadmin, you really should NOT being using that plugin. Reason, well, it does drive up your site’s resource usage. (Only if your site is really popular, you should be seeking out an upgrade. Trust me, Blondish.net, my biggest site in my own network is the highest resource on my own server.) How do I know, I am a small webhost( and web designer) and I have removed that plugin from many WordPress users admin panels.

Plugins are not always the solutions.

Anyway, your host is spouting nonsense, especially since you are not using index.html.

Probably the only thing you needed to have done before your site propogation was to export your WordPress through your WP admin panel (under Tools.)

So with the transfer, you retained the same domain…. I assume?
