  • You mean you want to become the Author of all posts/articles?

It sounds to me like the user areas you have mentioned are part of some kind of network under the control of someone providing hosting for websites, so there would be where to ask your question.

    hi thanks for replies,

    maybe i havent explained properly.

I have made a wordpress website under one persons logon details through wordpress.

what i want to do is move everything i have made designed etc to my login area for wordpress.

so i want to be able to log on to my wordpress area and be able to design change etc etc the wordpress site i initially made under someone elses word press login details.

It is not a problem if it is removed from the initial persons wordpress logon area and does not exist under their login details anymore.

i hope this makes sense ??

    thanks again

I think you are trying to create a new site with similar looks and want to have your own access. right?

If so you can migrate the site to your own hosting environment. This link may be helpful here

I have made a wordpress website under one persons logon details through wordpress.

what i want to do is move everything i have made designed etc to my login area for wordpress.

The site you have linked is hosted on these servers…
    Name servers:
    ns1.ams15.siteground.eu
    ns2.ams15.siteground.eu
    https://www.whois.com/whois/rydensbasketball.co.uk
…and the login there is completely separate from WordPress. If the owner of that domain and the user of that hosting account no longer has any interest in it, you might talk with him or her about purchasing the domain and assuming financial obligation for the hosting.

If you want to move that site to a different server, the next question would be whether you want to keep the current domain name. If so, see above. If not, you will have to purchase a domain name and a server account somewhere…and one thing to keep in my during all of this is that you might or might not be allowed to move your theme to a different domain…and to know about that, you would have to check with it authors or vendor.

thanks guys for the replies again.

I think i am understanding what i need to do.

i am just confused with one thing.

I am going to be purchasing hosting from the same place https://www.rydensbasketball.co.uk is hosted, i am also going to be getting a new domain name to go with it.

My only confusion i still have is that when i go to edit current site on my friends wordpress area i log on with his wordpress username and password and make all changes there. If i migrate everything to a hosting site that i purchase with domain name and all the same themes etc when i log onto my wordpress area with my details will i be able to edit the site there that as now migrated to the new hosting area with domain name, or do i need to migrate everything from one wordpress user area to another wordpress user area and then link to hosting site and domain name after.

apologies if this has already been explained but i have not read correctly.

    thanks again for help.

    Carl

when i go to edit current site on my friends wordpress area i log on with his wordpress username and password…

If i migrate everything to a hosting site that i purchase with domain name and all the same themes etc when i log onto my wordpress area…

…those same login credentials will still be there in the database…

… will i be able to edit the site there that [is] now migrated to the new hosting area with domain name…

Yes, but first the database will need some editing after being imported at the new server.

do i need to migrate everything from one wordpress user area to another wordpress user area

There is no such thing as migrating a WordPress user area, but here is what you are asking and what I would do either before or after migrating the site: Make a new Admin account of your own, then log in with those new credentials and delete the other user while re-assigning all posts and pages (user content) to your new account.

…and then link to hosting site and domain name after.

Yes, if you make that switch beforehand.

Moving WordPress is not difficult, and you will only need these three things from the existing installation:
database backup from cPanel > phpMyAdmin
    copy of /wp-content/ folder
    copy of wp-config.php
    copy of .htaccess

Do you have a specific plan and method in mind for the migration? Doing it manually is best, imo.

edit: Something else to be dealt with here is the matter of redirecting the previous domain to the new one and deleting the previous site in order to avoid duplicate content destroying SEO ratings all-around.

    that’s brilliant.

I don’t have a plan at present was asking to see if I would be able to do it.

I was hoping the hosting site i go to offers some kind of migration service that would tick the boxes i need them too.

Make a new Admin account of your own, then log in with those new credentials and delete the other user while re-assigning all posts and pages to your new account.

would i do this in his wordpress area or make a new word press area??

i think i may have worked out how to do it.

Would i create a new user (with my credentials)

set this new user to full admin

    Then delete the old user?

I was hoping the hosting site i go to offers some kind of migration service that would tick the boxes i need them too.

Some people use migration plugins, but I have never heard of any of those being recommended for a novice user of any of those. Manual is clean and simple, and you need to learn to deal with server stuff anyway. Some hosts do offer migration services, but I would be skeptical of those without first knowing the person doing the work is very familiar with how WordPress does things and I had an iron-clad guarantee of all things being exactly as they should be (and as I wanted them) upon completion.

    >> Make a new Admin account of your own…

would i do this in his wordpress area or make a new word press area??

I do not know what you mean by “WordPress area”. An admin has a Dashboard where new users can be added, and there is where you can make one and then log in and then delete the other and assign all of the other’s content to your new account…and yes, “full admin” is definitely what you want.

Sorry when i say “word press area” what i mean is the dashboard etc where i can select themes edit pages add pages etc, effectively the building part of the site.

I am used to old school web building places where i have a user and logon and i build my site under my user details.

Sorry when i say “word press area” what i mean is the dashboard etc where i can select themes edit pages add pages etc

np! My initial concern was related to something like the possibility of the confusion that happens when people with sites at wordpress.com mistakenly come here and use expressions exclusive to over there where a wordpress.com account can have several sites at one Dashboard.

Ok so i am understanding the site i have made for my mate is under .org and i was looking to transfer over to my user area which is a .com wordpress site/user area.

the site i have made for my mate is under .org and i was looking to transfer over to my user area which is a .com wordpress site/user area.

    Now I am confused again!

    1. What do you mean by “the site i have made for my mate is under .org”? www.remarpro.com does not host any sites — www.remarpro.com is simply a source for downloads.

    2. How can you possibly have an “area which is a .com wordpress site/user area” at a self-hosted site? Are you trying to bring wordpress.com into the eventual picture?

I suspect you might simply be saying your new domain will have .com as its TLD.

    (@carlbailey1983)

ok i think i know why im getting everyone confused lol.

when i logon i goto https://www.rydensbasketball.co.uk/login and use my mates logon details.

i pressume i am actually just logging into domain host area that lets me use wordpress ??

See I am used to using something like wix. I am used to building a website under a username or user area with the domain such as https://www.wix.com/nameofsite and then i would just buy a domain and link to this site so not actually need any hosting.

when i logon at https://www.rydensbasketball.co.uk/login i am logging onto the host area that has wordpress (or lets me use a wordpress dashboard, however it would be worded).
