Moving website from GoDaddy to WordPress

You CAN use WordPress on GoDaddy. Ask them how to switch your site.

Or if you want to use another host, you’ll need to change the nameservers for your domain name to point to the new host and install WP on the new host.

Domain mapping only applies if your site is hosted on WordPress.COM which is not likely what you want – see:

I do not currently have any type of hosting account. I basically just purchased a domain name and started using the website builder.

I don’t want my site hosted by wordpress.com, I was told I should use something like 1and1.com or hostgator

You do have hosting on GoDaddy – isn’t this your site?

In order to use your domain name on another host, you need to change he nameserver settings for your domain name on your GoDaddy account – see:

But once you change those, your old site will not work – so be sure you are ready. In fact, you may want to set up the new site using a temporary domain name – ask the new hosting company how to do that – many allow that. Then when the new site is ready, change the nameservers.

ok so that is definitely not what I want to do then.

Do I need to purchase a hosting account through godaddy? when i log into my acct and choose ‘hosting’ it says that I do not have a hosting account.

I think I basically just want to be able to use wordpress website builder instead of godaddy website builder.

no you dont need to buy hosting through godaddy.

blue host seem like good hosting, their support is quick to respond too, i coudnt wrap my head around dream host plans and no idea about laughing squid.
