• Hi everybody.
In order to keep my website structure tidy, I thought of creating some brand new categorized folders for my images.
Problem is -once the images are uploaded- I can actually move them to a new folder, but when I got back to the Dashboard I find out the images somehow “stick” to the original link and appear like missing/broken in WP.

How can I make their original URLs pointing to the folders actually containing the pictures?

    Thanks in advance!

  • The uploads folder is pretty tidy already as it organizes images in folders with the year and months. I’m not sure why you would want to mess with that.

I found this tutorial yesterday that allows you to change the directory to another folder, – https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-change-the-default-media-upload-location-in-wordpress-3-5/
but there’s a warning in there, that this tutorial is not for beginners. Messing about with that may break things.

Hi Christine, and first of all thanks for your answer.

I’m afraid the upload folder is *not enough* tidy, not for my purposes at least.
I’ve just turned-off that year/month folder thing, as my website basically runs on two major image galleries being updated with new images every now and then.
Using a folder/month structure means having an useless content breaking to me, not to mention how painful can be looking for a specific image through a 12 folders per year structure instead of easily browsing one single folder.

I’ll be looking into that tutorial, tho.

    Thanks again!
