• OK, so I’ve been (perhaps stupidly ?? not using a plug-in for podcasting. My setup has been very simple: podcast-only category, feed connected to that category submitted to Feedburner and from there to iTunes.

I just installed Powerpress and would like to start using it (plus likely eventually move hosting to Blubrry as well but one step at a time for now). I’ve been looking around at documentation a lot but I’m left a little confused so hoping to get some help.

    Here’s my quick issues:
    1. I have existing subscribers on RSS and iTunes that I’d like to move to the new feed (and get iTunes to go through Powerpress not Feedburner). Does that just mean deleting Feedburner and redirecting permanently to the new feed (https://rozworski.org/feed/podcast/)? Is that enough to ensure I don’t lose subscribers?
    2. How is Powerpress coming up automatically with the feed—is it just taking all posts that have audio (which is fine). I used to have a category that all podcasts were in; do I still need it?
    3. The new feed only has the 10 most recent episodes despite the fact that I turned on maximizer and entered show most recent *25* episodes. Does this just take a while to kick in?
    4. Can I go in and edit past posts and insert the [powerpress] tag to get the Powerpress player on old posts?

    (1) above is really my priority. I don’t want to lose subscribers but want to prep for migration to Blubrry eventually and start with just setting up Powerpress correctly.

Thanks for any and all help,
    Michal

Once you have everything properly set up within PowerPress, follow the instructions on this page to migrate from the Feedburner feed to the PowerPress feed:
    https://create.blubrry.com/manual/syndicating-your-podcast-rss-feeds/leaving-feedburner/

I took a look at your PowerPress feed (https://rozworski.org/feed/podcast/) and it’s currently listing 25 media enclosures. So, it looks like that’s been sorted. Yes – upon initial setup and/or import, PowerPress will make all posts with linked media files into podcast episodes. You can use the PowerPress shortcode on older posts to display the player if you want, or you can also set the player to appear above or below posts automatically in the PowerPress settings. If you choose the second route, the player should appear on any posts that contain a podcast episode.

Thanks for responding so quickly! I had seen those migration instructions and was just a bit unsure but confident now what to do.

Very last question, and again it may seem too simple, but how do I avoid having two players in an old post if I’m adding the [powerpress] tag? I currently have a [audio mp3="..."][/audio] tag which generates its own player. Do I just replace that with [powerpress url=””]? And in future posts do I just manually add this [powerpress url=””] tag? (Maybe I just don’t understand how I would include media in a post without a stock WP player showing up.)

    Thanks again!

Nevermind, I was far too quick with that response and didn’t look far down enough on the Edit Post page in WordPress ?? Ignore all of that, my only question is if it is safe to remove the old [audio mp=""] tag from my old posts now that they’ve been correctly identified as podcasts by PowerPress (I assume yes).

    Thanks!

If the media files have been picked up by PowerPress and you see them as Podcast Episodes underneath the WordPress blog posts then yes, you can remove those audio= tags from your posts.

Thanks again for all your help. One very final question: I deleted and redirected from Feedburner and everything is working perfectly. The only thing that’s not right is that the links generated by PowerPress to subscribe via iTunes (currently they just point back to rozworski.org/feed/podcast). I have the right URL to my podcast on iTunes (https://itunes.apple.com/ca/podcast/political-eh-conomy-political/id925162426) and have entered it into the URL field in the Destinations tab under PowerPress settings. Do I also have to enter it under the iTunes tab in “New iTunes feed URL”? Clicking on the link there opens up a big warning message so I wanted to be sure this is what I want to do.

Alright, self-help worked again. Turns out using https in the iTunes URL was the issue. All working now. This is a great plugin!

Excellent! Glad to see it’s working now as expected. If you’ve found the support we’ve provided here to be of value, please consider leaving a review for PowerPress:

These reviews help us with future development of the plugin, and we’d really appreciate it!
