Old site URL was domain.com/abc folder but the URL for homepage was changed to just domain.com

New site is at same URL in the same folder name.

Uploaded all the old folder files, edited config file according to new DB name, user, etc.

    Installed new version of theme.

Went into DB guts uploaded the .sql file and changed ‘site’ and ‘home’ where it lacked the actual folder that the home page would point to domain.com/abc

Thinking I will have to update the WP version if I can ever get back into the interface again.

The front page loads, but nothing else!!!!!

    Now what?

I can still access the old server, but I got all the files from there, and the DB backup..

Is the Dashboard just a blank white page? If so, that means PHP is crashing, usually due to a function conflict introduced by a plugin or theme.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

OK I made sure the old files were all in the FTP, config file fixed, DB updated to reflect actual position of the site, and then went to the ‘install’ link and updated the DB.

Now it all works, amazingly, save for two graphics which of course did not have the missing location folder in their URL. Easy fix.

Thank you… I need to get this process down pat because I am tasked with the job of moving several of these sites to a new host.

I auto-updated to the latest version of WP but cannot update the theme automatically because it was purchased, but I don’t think it’s a security issue and the owner doesn’t care so that will just stay as is for now.

    Thanks so much!

Yes thanks but that was not helpful when I read it before but now I know what to do I shouldn’t need it.
