• I am moving several sites from hostmonster to here. They are all wordpress. What I have done so far is made full back ups of the public html folder from ftp while hosted at hostmonster.

Pointed the domains in the direction of godaddy. Set up a fresh install of wordpress in my hosting account here.

Uploaded the entire website overwriting everything in the fresh wordpress install except the wordpress config file.

I then went to the corresponding mysql database on godadddy and used the restore feature with the corresponding database from hostmonster..

Now the sites back end greatshot.ca wp-admin is working great. All the posts seem to be there. But when i go to greatshot.ca it is simply a white screen..

Any idea where I went wrongé It is the same thing with several sites I a trying to move.. 1 curiously enough has worked.. any ideas would be great..

I didnt with the one that did work either though.. I am baffled beyond belief.. usually googling and following directions can get you through anything!

I’ve moved lots of sites with the plug-in wordpress move.

first you set the ftp config setting to those of your new site. I usually ftp wp-move to the new site as well. and set wp-move in the old site to use the backup folder of the plug-in on the new site.

use the advance option in migration assistant and select only the wp-content folder and/or if you have any other custom folders for content.

on the new site just run the complete migration. Works great.

hm that would have been a great idea if I had thought of it before.. and what I will do in the future.. but now I would have to switch all the name servers back and start over again… I think there just has to be a simple something wrong in one of the wp files that I can switch and then itll work.. thats what Im hoping atleast..

Jonrowe, The first thing I would try would be to go into settings -> permalinks and press the [save settings] button to create a new .htaccess file. Does that help at all?

Hmm nope.. Gave me hope for a second ?? On the phone with godaddy support atm.. see if all the warnings about their support is true or not ??

    jonrowe,

I just visited the site you mentioned in your initial post, and it appears to be working. Did you get the issue resolved? Can you tell us what the issue was and how it was fixed?

turned out to be a problem with the theme…. Wouldnt allow over 5 featured posts.. Put it down to that and all of the sudden it worked like a charm.. Not sure how or why but…
