moving site

i know this has probably been covered quite a bit before, trying to move a website from 1 server to another, after building a test site, we now need it to go live, i tried to download a zip of all the WP install via file manager, but it didn’t work when i tried to reinstall it so, I’ve tried reading all the info online about moving a site etc – and couldn’t get my old database to link up to a new one on a different server, so I ended up with a new install and then exported/imported the posts etc – but now we have to do all the theme changes etc again .. is there a wizard or bit of software to help?? or is there a very simple, clear set of instructions to use, as there seems to be about 3 or 4 ways to move a site, and it all seems very complex.

looked at cloning software, will this do it, or is it just a scam?
