• Our site has 2 separate installs of WordPress, the first is accessed by .co.uk/wp-admin and the other .co.uk/shop/wp-admin

The people who setup the site created a sub directory called ‘shop’ and copied the wp files over hence the second login

What we would like to do is move this back to the root so that we only have 1 login

  • Combining the two is technically possible, but you’re in for some significant effort if the sub-folder contains a lot of customizations not found in the root folder. And combining them also means using the same theme and plugins.

Not only significant effort on the technical side, but you’ll probably have trouble on SEO side.

    Thanks for your replies.

The site was originally built around 2 years ago and started out with the homepage being the shop front but then was changed to be a landing page with links to different areas of the business, HOMECARE, PHARMACY etc

This obviously means that the url reads .co.uk/shop/shop when viewing the shop pages.

The site is no longer live and what I would like to do is start again and rebuild the site without losing, page info all the woocommerce data such as products etc

Can anyone advise on the best way forward please?

I appreciate the biggest issue ‘may’ be SEO as all the old url’s would have been indexed.

    Many thanks,

    Hello Taste media,

Honestly, I think the best way to move forward is to get in touch with a local uk freelancer or agency that has both a good experience with WP and SEO, as it’s a project that requires to be in touch with you I think.

That way, you will be involved in it and make debriefings with folks at every step. Thing is it’s quite complex, on a general advice prepare to loose some SEO ranks if you move (that you can regain later). But this is not a SEO forum.

    Regards,
