• Hello!
I’m having a problem so I’d love to hear a quick reply:
I (until today) blogged on wordpress.com and I now decided to move to yeahost.com. It all went well with one exception: I cannot upload the xml containing the old posts to my new location directly, but I can upload it using the ftp server. How and where should I upload the xml file containing the old posts on my new hosting?
    Many thanks in advance!

Why not? Is there an error you could share?

Are you using this plugin for the import? https://www.technosailor.com/wordpress-to-wordpress-import

FAQ as well from over in wp.com land along with a walkthru of the method.

Tried the plugin and this is the error:

Sorry, there has been an error.

Unable to create directory /www/yeahost.com/a/arkan.yeahost.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Is there any way of manually uploading the file (via ftp) or any other way please?
    (thanks for the quick reply)

Afraid not. Is the wp-content and uploads subdirectoriues writable? Are they set to 777?

They seem not to be writable for the wp platform, still they can be modified using a ftp client. Enlighten me please, what’s that “777”?

Look for “directory permissions” for those subdirectories. They’re probably set to 755 currently. You need to change them to 777.

There’s an explaination in the Codex you can read.

Indeed that was the problem. I’ve changed them to 777 and the upload went on in just a few seconds. Thank you very much for your help, I wish you both a new year full of all the best ??
