moving multisite to new host

    Hi, Moving multisite from godaddy to site5 vps. They are doing the migration so I will let you know how it goes. ?? Assuming they move it like a single site per codex (domain name is staying the same) it should go fine.

    My main question relates to nameservers and wildcard DNS. I am keeping all my domain names at godaddy (for now). I have set up a new dedicated IP and a wildcard DNS record at site5.

    Questions:
    Main domain- change nameservers to site5 and good to go? OR can I just keep the nameserver as is with godaddy and just point the A records of @ and * to new dedicated IP?

    Sub-domains- do I need to change nameservers to site5 OR just change the @ A record to new IP?

    Internal Domain Mapping- Anything special for donncha’s domain mapping except changing the “Server IP Address:” in configuration dash?

    Either / or.

    If you change the nameservers on the godaddy side, you don;t get the total DNS area. then the part about A record is moot.

    that’s it.

    And go to those mapped domains and change *their* A records.

    it seems like it would be fast and easy just to edit the current A records of master domain and mapped domains to point to the new IP… right? (not mess with nameservers)

    Also, site5 set up DNS record that looks like *.tld.com as an “A” record pointing to new IP. Is this correct? or not needed if I keep nameservers same as just mentioned. It seems like like I have too many DNS records in the new site5 account but maybe they are irrelevant if I am not using site5’s name servers?

    Is there a speed/performance or any other issues if I do not use site5’s nameservers?

    Yes, you can just change the A record at your registrar.
