• Hi All

I am having great difficulty trying to move my wordpress MU from my localhost to my VPS.

I am currently trying to set the wp mu up on a tempory url until it has been apporoved by client I can then switch the domain over.

I moved all the wp files and uploaded the DB but I get a blank screen. I am not sure I have entered the correct details in my htaccess and wpconfig file.

My site is on a temp url made up of a Ip address and then a directory name which contains thie character ~

I’m not sure what I should be putting as my blog url, is it the actual domain or this temp url?

My hosts have been a complete nightmare!

    I’m so lost ??

  • I deleted the database that I had uploaded to site 2 and imported it to site 1, my main site.

So, are you even using multisite. the built in feature for multiple sites – or did you just do thee separate installs into one db?

Thanks for replying! Didn’t see your question. Still not moved yet and growing tired of this but determined to get this done!

I am running Multi-Site (WP Network on 3.1.2) on a Mac. I have been reading all these forums and I am starting over on my goal of moving my multisite from localhost to an external shared host(Network Solutions) so all my sites will have the unique public domains that I just purchased. My questions about IP addresses I found answered in the domain mapping — I will add them with the Domain mapping plugin to my subsites after I get my Network’s main site moved over. (please confirm that this is right).

Before I try the move again (export db, import db, ftp wp files after I fix config file), should I change “host” at the top of the db (.sql) file before I import it from “localhost” to “mysqlv19” the server alias that gets generated in Network Solutions or is that not necessary?
If so, in the rest of the database I was going to replace “localhost” with my main site domain. Does that seem right?
    https://localhost/wordpress/
    https://localhost/wordpress/site2
    https://localhost/wordpress/site3
    becomes:
    https://mainsite.com/wordpress/
    https://mainsite.com/wordpress/site2
    https://mainsite.com/wordpress/site3
    Is this right?
Can I get rid of the /wordpress/ if I FTP the contents of my local “WordPress” folder to the root folder that my new host gives me?

yes that’s exactly what you do.

yes. otherwise domain mapping won’t work.
