Moving local install back online

    I have a local install of my blog for development of a new layout. Meanwhile the old layout has still been online with new posts, etc (no hosting or dns changes). Do I need to update the old database before upgrading to the new layout? Or can I simply copy over the theme and image files? The local and server WP versions are the same as well.
